Arts Desk Placement
The Financial Times
(April - July 2024)
‘Lucy was a very constructive and committed member of the FT arts team during her brief placement with us. She was always eager to learn and adapt to new skills, keen to expand her range and to experience the full potential of her time here.
’Lucy is also enthusiastic about wider forms of journalism that we weren't able to offer her in the short time she had with us - for example, podcasting - but I'm sure she'd apply similar energy and commitment to that.
’Overall, I'd be very happy to give Lucy a warm recommendation for whatever she chooses to do next.’
Jan Dalley, former arts editor at the FT

‘During her three-and-a-half-year tenure as Online Editor, Lucy was responsible for a variety of tasks, including the coordination and quality assurance of the Goethe-Institut UK’s website, editorial content, digital projects, and social media planning and management.
‘Lucy demonstrated a strong ability to manage the Goethe-Institut UK website, ensuring it met our editorial standards and was optimised for search engines. She was involved in the conception and coordination of international digital projects in the areas of culture, language, and information, as well as partner projects.
’Regarding her editorial work, Lucy organised and created several interviews with artists and other practitioners in written and video formats. She was also the project lead, producer and host of the Talking Culture podcast. Lucy has an excellent command of multimedia software and has developed engaging video, audio and image-based content with these platforms.
‘In her social media responsibilities, Lucy planned and managed all channels in collaboration with our press and public relations officer. She coordinated and participated in community management and developing special social media campaigns, such as those for language course marketing. She was also the project lead for our global TikTok channel, Goethe-Institut Deutsch.
‘Lucy possesses comprehensive knowledge gained through years of practical experience and additional training. She has experience in web and social media editing, a strong understanding of cultural and socio-political discourses in Germany and the UK, and advanced skills in active information dissemination on the web and social networks.
‘Her excellent German and English language skills, along with her strong communication and organisational competencies, were valuable assets to our team. We were pleased with Lucy's performance and wish her all the best for her future career choices.’
