Onleihe: Lesenswert series

About the project

Onleihe is the Goethe-Institut’s German-language eLibrary. Individuals with permanent residence outside Germany can access over 35,000 German-language books, audiobooks, films, resources for German learners, magazines and newspapers.

One of the key digital marketing initiatives developed to encourage subscriptions is Lesenswert (‘worth reading’ in English). Published weekly on social media and via an email newsletter, Lesenswert presents a curated selection of German-language books grouped around a topical theme or genre. The project was managed and produced by the DigiLab team, who oversee cultural events, as well as the curation and distribution of editorial content across Northwest Europe.

Project responsibilities:
Editorial content curation, web production and communications

In January 2021, I was promoted to the DigiLab team. As one of four team members, I played a pivotal role in the production of the Lesenswert project, from conceptualisation to execution. During project planning meetings, I provided my ideas and feedback on the curated reading lists, as well as the Canva design elements for the social media posts.

As the only native English speaker, my core tasks included translating, editing and proofreading English-language content for all digital platforms. Another vital component of my editorial work involved utilising our custom CMS to build and update the Goethe-Institut UK's Onleihe website.

Regarding my communications tasks, I was responsible for storing and distributing social media packs internally, planning posts with the Communications team and publishing content on the Goethe-Institut London’s social media accounts.
