#MeetTheAuthor
#MeetTheAuthor is the Goethe-Institut’s international online book club, connecting literature enthusiasts across Europe to explore German-language literature. Authors join live to read from their works and engage directly with participants. Each month, the Goethe-Institut selects an exciting book from recent years, ranging from debuts, bestsellers, and narrative non-fiction. All readings and discussions are in German, free to attend, and designed so everyone can join the conversation, whether or not they have read the book. Reading samples are provided to support participation.
About the project
Between June 2021 and December 2024, I was responsible for the Goethe-Institut UK’s website, social media, podcasts, digital strategy, and editorial budgets. As an Online Editor representing London’s Communications team, I attended weekly digital meetings with other offices in the region to coordinate upcoming projects and plan content distribution across our platforms. This included utilising our custom CMS to update the UK’s #MeetTheAuthor landing page and individual event pages, posting social media content pre-made by Mareike Wittler, and boosting posts via Meta Business Suite when signup figures were low.
In January 2022, I was promoted to the Goethe-Institut’s DigiLab to oversee the production of digital content and cultural events across Northwest Europe. One of the literary projects produced by the DigiLab was #MeetTheAuthor, which led to my increased involvement in the strategy and digital content production side for the project. Additional responsibilities included translating and revising all English-language copy, preparing English transcripts for video content, crafting and distributing English-language social media packs and CMS content pages, and liaising with authors and PR representatives to ensure accurate copyright information for multimedia content, as well as social media handles, hashtags, and other attributions.
Moreover, I worked closely with the DigiLab team to plan social media campaigns and digital marketing strategies to promote book club sign-ups and reach wider audiences. I also regularly compiled reports on social media engagement with #MeetTheAuthor content, UK signup figures, and webpage traffic, presenting these insights to the DigiLab team to inform future content and marketing initiatives.
