Goethe-Institut x Somerset House Studios Residency

About the project

In 2020, the Goethe-Institut and Somerset House Studios (SHS) established an international artist residency programme to support a Germany-based artist working at the intersection of music, art, and technology. Owing to the pandemic, the inaugural edition was postponed to 2021. Berlin’s infamous CTM Festival joined as a collaborative partner on the project in 2024.

Project responsibilities:
Communications, budget planning, and digital content production

As the Online Editor at the Goethe-Institut London, I managed and produced a wide range of editorial content to document and promote the residency programme across our digital platforms. From the outset to the conclusion of each residency, I participated in external stakeholder meetings to discuss the most effective strategies for driving digital engagement, preparing posting schedules, promoting residency events, and distributing media packs.

Working closely with the artists-in-residence, I developed and published original cross-platform content, including artist and event webpages, podcast episodes, long-form written interviews, and multimedia social media posts. As all residency websites I built for the Goethe-Institut UK are available in both English and German, translation and proofreading were also key components of my production work.

For residency events, I collaborated closely with our internal project coordinator, Mario Schruff, and the SHS Studios team to devise strategies for digitally documenting and translating the events. As the performances and exhibitions were held at SHS, another central aspect of my role involved acquiring and archiving editorial content created in-house by the SHS team, and republishing it on the Goethe-Institut UK’s platforms.

As manager of the Goethe-Institut UK’s social media channels and editorial budgets, I was also responsible for running and invoicing several paid social media campaigns aimed at boosting ticket sales and increasing visibility for the events.

Clubbing and Culture in Times of Covid

In October 2021, we invited our inaugural artist-in-residence, Juliana Huxtable, onto the Talking Culture podcast to discuss everything from artistic influences to her opinions on clubbing amidst a global pandemic. The Texas-born, Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist is known for her contemporary visual and performance art, poetry, and electronic music sets.
